Windsurfing at Camp One

Photos from Camp One, North Shore, Maui, Hawaii. Sunday, July 22, 2007.

Good evening from Maui

I've been delinquent since that last post from Salt Lake City. Because, predictably, things have been busy. I've been on Maui for a little over 10 days now and I am loving it here. Can hardly believe that I'm not on vacation and that I will NOT be leaving again in a few days. Thought I would just post an image or two from the Four Seasons Maui. Nothing spectacular, but evocative of my night: a nice dinner from Duo (one of the restaurants at the resort) and some palm tree tops in the setting sun.

Four Seasons New York Retrospective

These are mostly photographs taken from the Four Seasons Hotel roof top of the surrounding skyline. I will add more as I find them.

Click on a photo and it will migrate to the foreground.

Meet my brother...

The Metro Guide Crew

A few weeks ago, the boys from the Metro TV days got together for my farewell dinner. These are a few photos from that night.

The bar downstairs at Alma.

A last New York City sunset....

Last night I said farewell to two friends I originally met when we all worked at the Delamar Hotel back in 2002. Magic Hat #9, on tap, at Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City -a nice backdrop for what might be my last NYC sunset for a little while.

View to the west from Water Taxi Beach.

Pretty soon I will be trading in this spot along the East River in Queens for the entirely different beaches of Maui. No value judgement here - I love them both. At Water Taxi Beach, you get the premium Black Angus hot dogs and a nice selection of draft beer against the skyline at sunset. Not a bad deal.

The background: a year or two ago, someone trucked 400 tons of sand to a vacant lot on the Long Island City waterfront (near the water taxi dock) and opened a bar. As it always happens, what was once an under-the-radar spot for locals has now become a full fledged destination for the masses - complete with an army of security guys and a $5 per person cover charge. While it doesn't entirely ruin the mood, it's certainly a sign of the times.

The word is out on this spot and has been for a while.

The well stocked beer bar. (we had "Magic Hat #9" - a solid summer brew from Vermont).

Welcome

I am having some technical difficulties with my Wordpress blog and have decided to give this Google framework a try while I work out the issues. There should be some frequent updates happening here, since things are pretty dynamic for me right now. A move to Maui, Hawaii happens in less than two weeks and I've spent the past month wrapping things up here in New York. Surprising how much detritus accumulates during 12 years of living in a place...
Stay tuned for news on my Maui arrival.

In the meantime, the coming days will feature some posts about a recent trip to Switzerland to visit my partner in crime, KVC, and perhaps some images from New York City as well.
